The search for the perfect partner is as old as time itself. Tall, brunette, smart, kinky, successful, ambitious, the wish-list is endless. To this end, there has been no dearth of entrepreneurs trying to cash in love and matrimony. Witness the profusion of websites such as eHarmony, Lavalife and dare we say, Myspace.
It takes an entrepreneur of a whole different mindset, however, to come up with the following outrageous, nay, mind-blowing concept. Conjugal Harmony is the brainchild of some clever Californians (who else?) and seeks to join discerning men and hardened female felons in holy union. Their tag-line? The nagging stops when the bars slam shut. Evocative stuff.

Editor’s note: Original title – Jumping Through Hoops: A Criticism of Modern Woman.
I will begin at the place where the idea started, shivering to keep itself alive; wrapped in a newspaper like a thrift-shop gift. I was reading an article one day, not too long ago, the kind of sensible, instructional, “for-your-own-good” piece of printed charm. The content? Nothing other than the slightly insistent, slightly nagging, slightly droning voice of feminism, a voice that is so misunderstood (and, more tragically, so misnamed) by so many smirking, self-righteous women and men, that it is beginning to breed confusion rather than liberation. Just as the author, Wallace Immen, was stumbling through the tirelessly saturated topic of women in management, a punch-line quote cooked up by a certain consultant named Elaine Allison was suddenly presented on a fool’s gold platter of wisdom: “If women Read On! »

Honestly, how many jokes are there about semen being good for women? It’s moisturizing. It’s all protein and low in carbs. That’s all bollocks but researchers at Cornell University have confirmed that semen has short and long-term effects in women. Alright, so the preceding statement isn’t entirely factual. The research team actually found that the semen of male fruit flies has a significant effect on the female fruit fly after mating. To summarize, in the short-run the female fruit flies produce more eggs and in the long-run, they are less concerned about mating with other males. From the report:
The short-term response occurs during the first 24 h after mating, with the induction of elevated egg production and reduction in receptivity largely dependent on Acps (accessory gland proteins-editor) and not sperm. One Acp, ovulin Read On! »

Editor’s note: Please welcome new author BlazeDaily to the upper echelons of writing, the pantheon of truth and learning, the pinnacle of critical op-ed, the one, the only, the BackWomb. Ok, bullshit aside, read her stuff. If you agree, give her support. If you don’t, rip her to shreds. Personally, I like my women well-fed, sane … and able to cook curry.
I have always been a very skinny child. It seemed to my parents that I was always too preoccupied with games to attend a meal. I have always found eating to be a chore that took time away from my creative processes. Even though I liked all food I never wanted to stop, sit down and have a meal. My adrenaline kept my appetite in check so unless someone was shoving a piece of bread in my mouth while I was playing Read On! »

In case you didn’t catch my drift (said drift being somewhat prominently displayed on the front page under LINKS & FRIENDS), I heartily recommend reading the internet cartoon strip Jesus & Mo. Not only are the jokes deliciously intellectual and generally bloody priceless but the strip’s author always finds a way to illustrate the various fallacies contained within the title characters’ respective religions (and occasionally a few others). One of the recent episodes was simply too good to pass up so I’ve posted it here (after the “Read On link)… possibly in violation of the published material’s share-license but what the hell, you gotta read it.
Muslims note: The Prophet Mohammed himself is not depicted in the cartoons, rather, someone named Mo … who happens to walk the same walk and supposedly Read On! »

A short time ago I posted an article on the stoning of a young Yazidi girl for “consorting with the enemy” and posted a link to the gruesome video footage. The article didn’t really garner much attention, which was a bit surprising to me, but so it goes. Since then, the story has spread like wildfire through the blogosphere and many have come forward with their opinions. Repulsion at the act seems unanimous but there are quite a few bloggers who seem to think that watching the video, or indeed linking to it, is somehow a bad thing. One such blogger is a friend over at the Chapati Kid so I thought I’d take her to task on what I see as a completely skewed point of view (her short intro HERE). Let’s begin.
The Chapati Kid links to THIS article by Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (which contrary to my beliefs are apparently well-liked shows). I should Read On! »
