2008: The Gestation Continues

tbwnews.jpgThis January’s end will make it about six months that the new iteration of the Womb has been running and all of us here are happy at the intelligent, involved community that is developing. During the break (which you may have noticed given the startling lack of new material) we renewed our commitments to keeping you embryos entertained with as much critical commentary, sarcastic humor, tales of the absurd and footy news as possible as well as charted out a plan for the coming year. What we’re saying is, there’s lots more new stuff to come and a lot more often too.

In that vein, let’s recap some of what happened in 2007, in no particular order and with a grain, nay, whole shaker of salt. Read On! »

Merry Christmas Embryos!

christmasthum.jpgTis the season to be jolly and all that good stuff. We at the Backwomb sincerely hope you had a fantastic holiday with plenty of:

rest, good food, interesting conversations, strong drinks, lazy mornings, drunken ruminations, late nights, snow fights, barbecues and outdoor limes (to those in warmer climes), giddy gift unwrappings, quiet moments, brazen speeches, snow in torrents, pensive mumblings, droopy eyes, significant others, closer family ties.

Please take a moment to think of those who aren’t in a position to enjoy similar benefits and may the holiday spirit be strong with you all. Merry Christmas from the Backwomb!

Rebirth, Resurrection & Caesarean Section

tbwnews.jpgI’ll be frank, not a damn thing has been posted since early June. Fortunately, there’s a fine reason for playing truant. Some time ago I decided to move what had been my personal blog into an altogether different direction, namely an internet magazine that would explore sensitive and relevant issues (to young adults anyway) in a fair, open and somewhat nonchalant way. After an extended incubation period, I’m happy to report the BackWomb is once again up and running. There have been myriad changes to the way the site looks and operates as well as the content that will be contained within so I’ll try to give a brief overview.

First, I want to extend a huge thank you to my partner and the whiz behind all the technical innards that now power the site, Reza Shaffaf. As co-founder of DiligentFolk, you can expect Rez Read On! »

Changes to the BackWomb

tbwnews.jpgI got bored of the dark background and orange borders (even though they remain my colors of choice). It seemed to come across as a little to busy (this coming from someone who is color-blind).

So instead, behold a new, more coherent, more serious, easier to read and somehow simpler color scheme. To keep things from getting out of hand vis a vis scrolling down the page, everything is just a little bit wider too. That should make better use of screen estate. And there are sharp corners now, so mind them yeah? Likely this is just another temporary change until I find something I really like but until then, what say ye? Site Changes & Color Blindness

colorblind.jpgFrequent visitors will have noticed that the site design and color scheme have been all over the place lately. For those that don’t know, I’m color blind (red-green-brown deficient), so picking colors that work together has always been a chore for me. That’s why I always need someone with me to buy clothes, etc.

8% of men worldwide are color-blind in some way, so, ladies, if your partner has no idea what’s going on with that purple/blue/red/green dress you chose, forgive him. He may be defective by birth. Men are 10-20 times more likely to be color-blind than women. That said, since men do not pass the X chromosome onto their offspring (the defect is passed in the X chromosome), it is the women who usually pass color-blindness Read On! »

Changes to the BackWomb

changeoldthum.jpgGiven the traffic to the site and the pages that most people are viewing, I’ve decided to close down the multimedia and photos section. Personal pictures will now be linked to a Flickr account from the About Me page. Multimedia files will be moved to within blogs (perhaps as a weekly column of what’s what in viral video). The site also takes on a new design.

Finally, I’ll be adding a new section to the site, called Creative. Here I’ll showcase whatever art I’ve done over the years, digital or otherwise. Most of my art is still in Florida, so the Creative section will be a work in progress. Screenshot inside.

New website is up!

After multitude hours of intense…procrastination, I am after all a grad student now, the site is up and running. Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll be tweaking the design and adding the rest of the icons and content. Primarily, I want the blog up and running. I sincerely hope the site can go on to become something useful, edgy and entertaining. I’ll be looking for contributors to the site once things are up and running smoothly. Drop me an email with comments, suggestions and critiques. Screenshot of the current design inside.
