Well there’s been a little bit of a hiatus around these parts when it comes to footy. We apologize and promise to get right back to things. Fortunately, there hasn’t been any dearth of the sport itself, quite the opposite, all kinds of leg-antics have been going on, some entertaining and others horrific.
The biggest news is probably Eduardo’s horrific injury. The Croatian striker is likely out for nine months after breaking his . Martin Taylor, Birmingham captain was the gent to do the honors and contrary to Wenger’s initial outburst, it wasn’t intentional and the man looked genuinely aghast at what had happened. There’s really not much else for us to say. We can only hope Eduardo makes it back to professional football in a timely manner. Read On! »

Apologies to all for missing the last installment of the column. Your editor took a mini-vacation and was unable to push out several articles as a result. Fortunately, the goings-on were well-covered by a stellar Footy Fetish broadcast last week that saw an exclusive interview with David Beckham. We hope to have yet another exclusive interview with Jose Mourinho in the next two weeks. News aside, what of the Premiership?
Most noteworthy is the Gunners retaking the lead atop the league table. This past week saw Arsenal take on Man City and come out ahead, 3-1, thanks to a brace from Adebayor (who has been in scintillating form this season) and an astonishing volley from Eduardo. Fernandes pulled one back for City but they were quite hopelessly outclassed by the Gunners which further adds to Eriksson’s woes of late. Read On! »

It would appear our fanatical Arsenal supporter and author has taken a leave of absence this week so I’ll be filling in for him. Another busy week in footy and while the Premier League matches mostly went off as planned, the same can’t be said for the other tourneys. Indeed, the upset of the season was a 5-1 drubbing of the Gunners by arch-rivals Tottenham in the Carlin Cup. It wasn’t long ago we were banding about the rather nice statistic of Tottenham not having won against Arsenal since sometime in 1999. Well, credit to Juande Ramos for turning all that around. The Arsenal youngsters were completely outclassed.
Back to the Premiership. The past week saw Arsenal take on Fulham and come out on top, 3-0 thanks to two towering headers from Adebayor and a doozy of a volley from long-haired midfielder Rosicky. I was fortunate enough to watch the match and the Read On! »

Well … not sure where to start. You’d expect me to go straight into the Gunners, but after this weekend, I just don’t feel like it. So, let’s start with Man United’s absolute destruction of the Magpies. I know people were expecting a hight scoring game, but 6-0 is just taking the piss. The funny thing is I told a mate it wouldn’t surprise me if they won 6-0. So the Red Devils take first spot through goal difference. The good news was the ridiculous amount of points I got in Fantasy Football, what with Ronaldo as captain, Tevez and Ferdinand. Yuh! I can’t believe I just said that, fuck the Mancs. Sorry.
Chelsea, with their newly acquired striker Anelka, played Spurs in the other must watch game, with the Blues coming out winners, 2-0. Again, Spurs were Robinson-less. Oh deary Pauly, what are you going to do now? Liverpool weren’t so lucky with Boro Read On! »

Editor’s note: Xander returns to take over the reigns.
Hello everyone, hope everyone had a great holiday season, full of love, peace and of course, football! It’s been a while since I wrote something and I apologize, since you probably all missed my Arsenal analysis and Manchester United hatred. So, 5cents got everyone up to date with the long Christmas and New Year’s busy schedule, and it’s wonderful to start 2008 top of the table. Thanks West Ham! The Gunners have been playing well, and have even changed their traditional 4-5-1 setup, now playing with two strikers. I have always preferred that formation, but it is obviously taking some time for the players to get used to this. The back four have been looking a little suspect without the extra protection the 5th midfielder offers, but Almunia has been solid in goal. A lot of people have asked me my opinion Read On! »

Well it’s been a while since we posted a Football Matters, but to be fair, most of us were pretty busy with the holiday season (read, hammered for days on end). The same can’t be said for the players in the Premier League who have had a bloody busy time with each team playing at least twice, if not thrice over the break. In lieu of the usual banter about specific games, we’re going to just summarize the holiday season (which was a roller coaster of games and results).
If you want to hear more about particular players, we suggest tuning in (see how-to at bottom) to the show tonight at 9pm EST to hear WindJunkie, BennyBoy, 5cents and Xander mouth off. The Footy Fetish Show is broadcast every Thursday on AceRadioLive via the good folks at BlogTalkRadio. Read On! »

What an interesting week in the English Premier League. For those absolutely clueless about the EPL, this past week saw the big four teams (Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United & Liverpool) play each other in what was always going to be a fascinating exhibition of footballing talent, skill, tactics and grit. As befitting such a momentous occasion, I’ll begin by going over these matches.
First, the Man United-Liverpool game which saw the Red Devils sneak by 1-0. Tevez was the goal-scorer, side-footing in after Rooney’s attempt. Once again, Giggs was the instigator delivering quite the corner kick. It was by no means a beautiful goal, but it did the job. Anderson proved priceless for Fergusons’s men when he cleared a goal-bound Kewell shot off the line. Both Torres and Babel played well for Liverpool and were unlucky Read On! »
