Football Matters

fotfetmatarlthum.jpgWell there’s been a little bit of a hiatus around these parts when it comes to footy. We apologize and promise to get right back to things. Fortunately, there hasn’t been any dearth of the sport itself, quite the opposite, all kinds of leg-antics have been going on, some entertaining and others horrific.

The biggest news is probably Eduardo’s horrific injury. The Croatian striker is likely out for nine months after breaking his . Martin Taylor, Birmingham captain was the gent to do the honors and contrary to Wenger’s initial outburst, it wasn’t intentional and the man looked genuinely aghast at what had happened. There’s really not much else for us to say. We can only hope Eduardo makes it back to professional football in a timely manner. Read On! »

Football Matters

fotfetmatarlthum.jpgApologies to all for missing the last installment of the column. Your editor took a mini-vacation and was unable to push out several articles as a result. Fortunately, the goings-on were well-covered by a stellar Footy Fetish broadcast last week that saw an exclusive interview with David Beckham. We hope to have yet another exclusive interview with Jose Mourinho in the next two weeks. News aside, what of the Premiership?

Most noteworthy is the Gunners retaking the lead atop the league table. This past week saw Arsenal take on Man City and come out ahead, 3-1, thanks to a brace from Adebayor (who has been in scintillating form this season) and an astonishing volley from Eduardo. Fernandes pulled one back for City but they were quite hopelessly outclassed by the Gunners which further adds to Eriksson’s woes of late. Read On! »

Football Matters

fotfetmatarlthum.jpgIt would appear our fanatical Arsenal supporter and author has taken a leave of absence this week so I’ll be filling in for him. Another busy week in footy and while the Premier League matches mostly went off as planned, the same can’t be said for the other tourneys. Indeed, the upset of the season was a 5-1 drubbing of the Gunners by arch-rivals Tottenham in the Carlin Cup. It wasn’t long ago we were banding about the rather nice statistic of Tottenham not having won against Arsenal since sometime in 1999. Well, credit to Juande Ramos for turning all that around. The Arsenal youngsters were completely outclassed.

Back to the Premiership. The past week saw Arsenal take on Fulham and come out on top, 3-0 thanks to two towering headers from Adebayor and a doozy of a volley from long-haired midfielder Rosicky. I was fortunate enough to watch the match and the Read On! »

Football Matters

fotfetmatarlthum.jpgEditor’s note: Xander is otherwise occupied so I will be writing the column this week. Your original, limey author should be back and raving about Arsenal in a week. Also, I’d like to welcome all the new Footy Fetish Show listeners to the Womb. Your Footy Fetish hosts will be commenting and discussing everything we don’t get to voice during the show in the comments so do participate if you love the sport and/or play fantasy football. Also included in each week’s column will be an injury and suspension list as well as general tips. On with it then.

Let’s begin by reviewing the past week’s games, and following Xander’s lead, we’ll begin with Arsenal. The Gunners made up their game in hand this past week by playing twice, first against Wigan and today against Newcastle. They won the Wigan game 2-0 but lost Hleb shortly after (though he was injured during international duty in the Belarus Read On! »

The Footy Fetish Show

footyfetishthum.jpgYou may be wondering what the hell football has to do with our mission at the BackWomb. Well, it’s simple really. Football has, by far, the largest worldwide audience. It is played in almost every fathomable country regardless of creed, religion, race or financial standing (Iran actually has a somewhat decent team, as do Saudi Arabia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and so on). Indeed, for your editor, football is one of those sports that can break down the division walls that segregate us today (liberal, conservative, capitalist, communist, democrat, republican, tory, terrorist, crusader, zionist, homo, skinhead, nigger, cracker, towel-head, etc.).

But let’s not be so profound. I love the sport. Lots of others do too. Which is why every Thursday at 9pm EST, myself and four others will virtually congregate at AceRadioLive’s internet radio site to shoot the shit, talk tactics, discuss strategy and hopefully Read On! »

Ace Radio Live’s Anniversary

arlsthum.jpgI’ve written before about the small, independent and absolutely riotous radio station, Ace Radio Live. Today is their one year anniversary since they started broadcasting indie bands over the internet and I wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate the misfit ARL crew (WindJunkie-the aged, dirty sailor, BennyBoy-the sketchy, latin stallion and Pooh Girl-the remarkably well-endowed foil).

Ace Radio Live (broadcasting via the PirateRadioNetwork) was hardly newsworthy when they first launched. Indeed their first show was completely disjointed and awkward though the music selection was immediately excellent (credit to the DJs). In the one year since, production values have improved, the DJ’s have all taken on unique on-air personas and they continue to offer ever increasing publicity to indie, unsigned bands Read On! »

Introducing… Ace Radio Live

acelogo.jpgFor those who haven’t heard Ace Radio Live, I’ll start with a small introduction. Ace Radio Live (ARL henceforth) is a small independent pirate radio station that broadcasts over the internet. They can be found broadcasting here or contacted via their Myspace page here. Every Wednesday, they have a live show with interviews, guest speakers and opportunities to win prizes especially if you are of the female variety. You can also call in to the show. I’m a regular guest on the show and the DJs are always giving me advice on something or the other (usually involving my bouts with impotence or obsession with white women). Why, you may be asking, do I support a radio station that plays alternative music, given my musical tastes lie elsewhere (or alternatively, you may be asking why I have bouts of impotence, but we’ll leave that for a later article).
