Well, as for staying in numbers to make it harder to be attacked, gangs are still a potentially successful menace. Widely disseminated AK-47s are a good way to make women groups victims of rape attack.
Please, imagine you are not in the middle of your village of huts and cows. You are alone by the creek with, let's say, your four children, when you see a group of three gunmen that had chased you, whether the know you for days, weeks or years or they had just passed by your village on the way back of any razzia action, which is very common in many parts of Africa. There's not such a safe place where you can go to do the laundry if you live where most of the people live in poor Africa.

Though, I think this device could proove useful to evade in case your neighbour or any "casual" raper (pardon for the expression) makes a try, but I can think of their revenge if they live nearby. So, this device must be re-thinked again. Something like retarded effects, a day or two later, like chemical substances, sensorial depressors, some kind of scaring effect that can happen time enough later so that the woman is safe.

And, of course, I can also imagine a place where you can think "may get raped today, but I need to do the laundry, or to go for my daily journey to the water 10 km away, so I'd better wear the device".

Ok, you do realize that in today's society some girls will this as a joke? or a prank? People will not only use this for it's sole purpose... as sadly as that is, this is not a good alternative for preventing rape. Instead you will be promoting murder. If a man is crazy enough to rape a woman and not kill her, what do you think he will do when he rapes her, realizes that he may never use his sex organ again, and she is right there in front of him? While the notion may be well, I seriously feel that you are leaving this open to too many other things that may lead to worse incidents than rape. I do live in America, small town, where there are not many rape incidents reported... but I can still recognize the absence of mind when you are promoting a dangerous payback to an already dangerous situation. Instead you should teach self defense and teach to stay in numbers where it is harder to be raped and there will be witnesses and people to yell for help or fight off a potential raper... please rethink this idea...

hi everyone,
actually i did a paper about the rapex condom in college, so i had to go through a lot of research and i can safely say these are my conclusions.

first, the rapex condom was designed for countries in which legal and economic situations are precarious. victims are so desperate for their safety that effective protection is needed IMMEDIATELY. in fact, it's a common belief between some african men, that aids can be cured by having intercourse with a virgin. needless to say, there's no time for long term goals such as education or security.women need protection NOW.

second, the rapex condom's purpose is not to "adapt [women] to rape by wearing these devices.” get real. rapex or not, women are being violated on a daily basis and by doing nothing about this, but settling for long term goals, we are allowing some form of adaptation. besides as the creator herself states "this device only intends to empower women back." not to implement some sort of educational system concerning violations.

third, the pain that the rapist feels is supposed to be harsh enough for him to be immobilized allowing the woman to escape, so he's not gonna be able to hurt her further while trapped in this device.
however i do have to say, the rapex condom is sort of useless and even dangerous in a gang rape.

even so, i'm all for it.
some of us are fortunate enough to live in a relatively safe environment in which we don't have to worry about a sex assault on a daily basis. however, other women are not as lucky and they really must be thinking:"“may get raped today, need to put it in”".

I watched a documentary about the rape victims and the rapist in the Congo. Its horrible. These women live in huts and wash clothes in a streams. The soldiers who are supposed to protect them hold them down and rape them. There are many many children with no parents because noone wants to raise a rape baby. This is ruining their society, and if these men who feel "entitled" to rape can receive pain for the horrible abuse they are causing to others--so be it. "Don't back up, Penis Damage". LOL

Woland is correct, it would never work in the US.

Yeah, why not? I figure that one should be prudent enough to check for said booby-trap before sex, whereas a rapist probably would not be so cautious...

Agreed, this would never pass muster in the US. But am I correct in assuming you approve of this sort of device?

I like this idea but sadly it would never work here in the United States due to our litigious society. You see, some personal injury lawyer would sue the woman and the company for 15 million dollars for damaging the rapist's unit. How can this be? Simple. Look at examples of case law where homeowners have been sued for setting up booby-traps in their homes that have injured or killed would-be thieves. There are also cases where the thief has been injured inside the home, attacked by an owner's pet, or trapped inside a malfunctioning garage door. In some of these cases the criminal was awarded a cash settlement! This idea is great for countries with some common sense, but no so much in this one.
