The Footy Fetish Show

footyfetishthum.jpgYou may be wondering what the hell football has to do with our mission at the BackWomb. Well, it’s simple really. Football has, by far, the largest worldwide audience. It is played in almost every fathomable country regardless of creed, religion, race or financial standing (Iran actually has a somewhat decent team, as do Saudi Arabia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and so on). Indeed, for your editor, football is one of those sports that can break down the division walls that segregate us today (liberal, conservative, capitalist, communist, democrat, republican, tory, terrorist, crusader, zionist, homo, skinhead, nigger, cracker, towel-head, etc.).

But let’s not be so profound. I love the sport. Lots of others do too. Which is why every Thursday at 9pm EST, myself and four others will virtually congregate at AceRadioLive’s internet radio site to shoot the shit, talk tactics, discuss strategy and hopefully, one day, resolve the Middle East issue. You can listen to us rant & ramble by going HERE every Thursday evening. If you’ve got something to say during the show, simply call us at (646) 478-5272 and we’ll put you through live on-air. If you miss the show but still want to be involved, you can add to the post-show discussion on the most recent Football Matters column (find them all HERE). The five hosts are all involved in fantasy football leagues so feel free to join (details given on-air), though it is in no way a requirement. Again, welcome to the Footy Fetish Show.

SUMMARY:

(1) Let’s recap. Thursdays at 9PM EST, you’ll want to head over to AceRadioLive’s BlogTalkRadio page (by clicking HERE) which looks like as shown at right.
(2) Scroll down the page a bit until you find the upcoming show listed under Posts. If you are early for the show, it will look like as shown at right. The top of the box will either say “Upcoming show,” or “Waiting for hosts to call in.” Be patient as the server collects the hosts.
(3) Once the hosts have called in and have begun the show, the box will update to show a time remaining counter (as shown at right) and will display a “Click to Listen” button. Clicking said button will launch a popup window (so make sure they are enabled for the site in your browser) in which the live-on-air audio stream will automatically begin. Enjoy.
(4) If you miss the live show but still want to hear what happened before joining the written discussions on the Football Matters column you can use the mini-player displayed below. Between Thursday (after 10PM EST) and the following Wednesday (before 9PM EST) each week, clicking play on the mini-player will stream the most recent Footy Fetish Show. Outside of these times, other AceRadioLive shows will loaded.

Our first show down and I think it went well. Thanks to Gentry (sp?) for calling in. You will find our collective wisdom (hopefully wisdom, it could well be folly) written here every week including injuries and so on. Also, my co-hosts will be adding information on the Footy Fetish League if you are interested in joining.

Oh and I think next week we’ll be bumping up the show to an hour long since fitting everything in a half hour is tough.

If you’ve got suggestions, tips or the like and want to share, post them in the comments.

Great Show boys! As promised, let me give you a quick round up of all the latest injuries that occurred this week. So make sure to adjust your fantasy team accordingly:

van Pierce – Out for two more weeks (source yahoo)
    C. Fabregas – Injured Hamstring on Tuesday, could be out up to 10 days. (source the Independent)
Hleb – Might make a return this weekend, continue checking news (Independent)
Drogba – Continues to be out with injury (Yahoo, Independent)
Elano – to miss 4 weeks w/ hamstring injury suffered during Reading game. (Daily Mail, ManCity News)
Rooney – should be back in action on monday vs Fulham (yahoo)

Finally, here are a couple of recommendations for this week Fantasy League games:

    Torres (11.82) vs Bolton
    Tevez (12.34) vs Fulham
Adebayor (15.09) vs AST and NUF
Martins (9.37) vs ARS and BLA
    Petrov (12.22) vs WHG
N’Zogbia (7.25) vs ARS and BLA
    Wallace (7.50) vs DER

Your purchase recommendation was helpful BennyBoy as was the strategy discussed on the show yesterday. Let’s see how it plays out.

Benny Boy – Are you sure about Elano’s 4 weeks? I have him for 5.80. I’ll keep him if he’s only out one week, but 4…

Here’s an article that I found dated Nov 30:

Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed that Elano’s full injury extent is yet to be ascertained but the Brazilian midfielder is out of Premiership trip to Wigan Athletic this weekend.

  6. Gentry said

Ok. I found this. I’ll hold onto him for this week.

“In the worst case, he will be missing for three to four weeks,” said Eriksson. “In the best case, it will be just the one match. But it’s bad because Elano is so important to us.

    @ Gentry:
Quoting Eriksson, “”He is having a scan and we do not know at the moment how long he will be out for.”

This article should also help: http://tinyurl.com/2bn2fw

In short, he could be out for upto a month. The scan results will be in today, before the roster deadline for this week has passed I imagine. You could wait it out to be sure.

Nickel – You gonna wipe out Jupiter Shockers points in the Footy Fetish league so we all start with a clean slate?

  9. 5cents said

Depends. If most people are already on Yahoo and simply joining the Footy Fetish league, it may be prudent to just let the points transfer over. If people are congregating from various different fantasy footy systems, it makes sense to start afresh (though I’m not sure I can enforce starting with a clean slate as a Yahoo option).

Are you already on Yahoo Gentry?

  10. Gentry said

I’m on as KSFM. It put me back to zero as far as I can tell. 4 teams have zero except for Jupiter Shockers which has 823.

  11. 5cents said

But you’re a fantasy league superstar Gentry, it only makes sense we handicap you in some way, HAH!

We’re sorting out the points issue now. You’ll either come in with existing from your other Yahoo groups/teams (if you already play on Yahoo) or we will reset everyone to level the field.

  12. bennyboy said

    Gentry and 5cents:
The yahoo Fetish league will update points by the end of the weekend. So Jupiter Shockers wont be the only one with points. According to our Yahoo sources, the points should be updated by the end of the weekend.

Also, Elano is expected to miss up to 4 weeks as per the article below:

When I started the Footy Fetish League last week, I had zero points until after the weekend. Then it updated to my actual points for the year. I’m assuming it will work that way for the rest of you that have existing Yahoo teams.

  14. Wind Junkie said

If you guys want to check the standings in the Footy Fetish Yahoo EPL Fantasy league, the points have updated. Bubba, you’ve got some catching up to do!

  15. Wind Junkie said

Hey 5cents. I just checked your lineup for this week. Are you retarded? Didn’t you pay attention on the show when we said Elano was out injured? We can’t help you if you don’t listen when we’re giving out crucial information.

  16. 5cents said

I might be retarded. Why, you gots a problem?? As Carlos Mencia might say, Te-de-deeee…

I got Elano because I expected him to be passed fit for the game after Wigan actually. What were the results of the scan anyway? Is he out for a month?

  17. 5cents said

I was under the impression that Hleb was out injured though. Didn’t we mention that during the show? Benito’s comment above was more accurate. In any case, he was pretty instrumental in the Gunners win today.

  18. Wind Junkie said

Bubba: I know this was your first week playing fantasy football, so a quick hint: you need to field a full team of 11 in order to get any points for the week. Of course, what’s another week of zero points?
