It was only a short time ago I was in stitches over the unprecedented case of a troop of monkeys killing the deputy mayor of India’s capital city, New Delhi. Now, via that illustrious aggregator of world news, the Beeb, I find yet another Third World tale that piques, nay, arouses my interest. Long time readers may remember my exhaustive piece on feral dogs in my hometown (article HERE) from a year ago. Well, this story is a fitting add-on to my ruminations of yore. Long story short, a man who stoned two dogs to death and then mysteriously suffered paralysis and loss of hearing was directed by his astrologers to marry a dog to atone for his sins. The wedding took place in a Hindu temple with a sizable gathering of friends and relatives cheering on the procession. I don’t begrudge superstitious people, to each his/her own really. What really got me was the BBC’s initial choice of title for the new-story (which was changed on the site some 20 minutes later): Man Marries Bitch to Beat Curse. Sexism aside, I always thought it was, Man Divorces Bitch to Rid Curse. Will wonders never cease, what? I’ll leave you with a quote from the groom’s family,

“On the advice of an astrologer and others, he decided to marry a bitch to get cured. Then we arranged Selvakumar’s marriage with a bitch.”

I suppose he’ll have to be well versed in doggy-style.
