Well there’s been a little bit of a hiatus around these parts when it comes to footy. We apologize and promise to get right back to things. Fortunately, there hasn’t been any dearth of the sport itself, quite the opposite, all kinds of leg-antics have been going on, some entertaining and others horrific.
The biggest news is probably Eduardo’s horrific injury. The Croatian striker is likely out for nine months after breaking his . Martin Taylor, Birmingham captain was the gent to do the honors and contrary to Wenger’s initial outburst, it wasn’t intentional and the man looked genuinely aghast at what had happened. There’s really not much else for us to say. We can only hope Eduardo makes it back to professional football in a timely manner. Read On! »

Despite having been teenagers not long ago, we find we can barely stand many of them today what with their excessive drama, perpetual angst and know-it-all attitude. Something to do with raging hormones at that age the medicos tell us. Nevertheless, we are sympathetic to their struggle and rebellious nature. We believe non-conformity at a young age will be channeled as creativity in adulthood, surely a worthy characteristic.
Sadly, the same can’t be said of many figures of authority who have been restless in their quest to tame the wild hordes that are teenagers. Curfews, age-restrictions, inane laws have all been bandied about in the past but now, they’ve resorted to high-tech weaponry. Behold the Mosquito, a device that emits a high-pitched sound supposedly inaudible to those older than 25 years. Approximately three and a half thousand such devices Read On! »

The search for the perfect partner is as old as time itself. Tall, brunette, smart, kinky, successful, ambitious, the wish-list is endless. To this end, there has been no dearth of entrepreneurs trying to cash in love and matrimony. Witness the profusion of websites such as eHarmony, Lavalife and dare we say, Myspace.
It takes an entrepreneur of a whole different mindset, however, to come up with the following outrageous, nay, mind-blowing concept. Conjugal Harmony is the brainchild of some clever Californians (who else?) and seeks to join discerning men and hardened female felons in holy union. Their tag-line? The nagging stops when the bars slam shut. Evocative stuff.

Multiculturalism has brought about the need to consider other ethnic and religious groups’ sensitivities for many aspects of life, such as foreign policy, the educational system, the medical establishment and so on. It makes sense that we be open-minded when it comes to those who are different if we’re ever to hope of living in harmony. In the midst of all this hyper-culturalism and globalization, however, it struck us that today’s society is becoming inevitably entangled in a web of political-correctness and the overwhelming desire not to offend others, to the point where even general conversation is becoming a ridiculous affair fraught with pitfalls.
Consider the following story of a digital children’s book, the Three Little Cowboy Builders, released in the UK that was based on the age-old Three Little Pigs fable. Read On! »

Apologies to all for missing the last installment of the column. Your editor took a mini-vacation and was unable to push out several articles as a result. Fortunately, the goings-on were well-covered by a stellar Footy Fetish broadcast last week that saw an exclusive interview with David Beckham. We hope to have yet another exclusive interview with Jose Mourinho in the next two weeks. News aside, what of the Premiership?
Most noteworthy is the Gunners retaking the lead atop the league table. This past week saw Arsenal take on Man City and come out ahead, 3-1, thanks to a brace from Adebayor (who has been in scintillating form this season) and an astonishing volley from Eduardo. Fernandes pulled one back for City but they were quite hopelessly outclassed by the Gunners which further adds to Eriksson’s woes of late. Read On! »

We at the Womb tend to be quite outspoken when it comes to the plight of African nations, though not in the usual manner. We believe African nations should practice self-reliance, self-improvement and proper self-governance instead of relying on the UN, sympathetic countries, foreign aid & troops (except in cases of, say, natural disasters). Africa is the cradle of life and it is astonishing that millennia of human habitation have little to show on the whole continent barring a few pyramids. Communal strife, genocide, corrupt governance, famine and the like plagues much of Africa even unto this day and to be frank, it seems as though many African nations are not deserving of sovereignty. Case in point, Liberia, where a Truth & Reconciliation Council (TRC) recently begun hearing cases in an attempt to heal wounds from the brutal civil war (which lasted from 1979 to 1993). Read On! »

It would appear our fanatical Arsenal supporter and author has taken a leave of absence this week so I’ll be filling in for him. Another busy week in footy and while the Premier League matches mostly went off as planned, the same can’t be said for the other tourneys. Indeed, the upset of the season was a 5-1 drubbing of the Gunners by arch-rivals Tottenham in the Carlin Cup. It wasn’t long ago we were banding about the rather nice statistic of Tottenham not having won against Arsenal since sometime in 1999. Well, credit to Juande Ramos for turning all that around. The Arsenal youngsters were completely outclassed.
Back to the Premiership. The past week saw Arsenal take on Fulham and come out on top, 3-0 thanks to two towering headers from Adebayor and a doozy of a volley from long-haired midfielder Rosicky. I was fortunate enough to watch the match and the Read On! »
